Nak-dong by Shin Sung-hyun

*Nak-dong: Traditional scorching technique that uses a hot iron heated in a kiln over 1000°C on the surface of paulownia wood. The surface treatment methods used for enhancing wood grain and ensuring durability can be traced back to Korea's Three Kingdoms period (BC 18 ~ AD 660). Korea’s last Dynasty, Joseon (1393~1897) ensured that traditional techniques were passed on to selected masters who would pass on their knowledge to one or two pupils and through this intangible heritage system in Korea, the technique remains in use to this day.
