Jucheol Yun South Korean, b. 1972

Jucheol Yun is a Korean ceramic artist and educator who creates tactile vessels using Cheomjang, a technique he developed from a 15th-century Korean tradition of repeatedly applying and drying white slip. Extending the process to as many as one hundred layers, Yun uses a traditional rice-straw brush to build irregular marks and pointed textures across each surface. He embellishes the resulting peaks with gold, honouring historic practice while signalling the emergence of new traditions. After many years of teaching in South Korea, Yun now teaches ceramics at a university in China, continuing his commitment to inspiring younger generations to approach cultural heritage with innovation.
