Overview

A finalist for the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2020, Cho is a metal artist and silversmith who creates exquisite and poetic artworks. Cho uses metal casting to transfer surface textures that he takes from specially selected objects or places. Trained in art school in Germany priory to his DFA in South Korea, his works ‘Transition of traces’ hold textures that are taken from a pattern his created using domestic utensils in his Seoul home to the Berlin Wall, bringing a depth of history and international connection to the works. Cho has developed a unique way of casting that achieves a lightness and delicacy to his silversmithing, echoing the idea of tracing history, tracing materials in transition
